Well, we’ve attained a new “title”=
today. We are now great-grandparents to little Opal Lou. Babies for =
a couple years are pretty helpless, especially on “diaper duty”=
=2E We had our children all with cloth diapers and it was a huge, sme=
lly task to get them dumped, rinsed, washed, and hung out in the back yard =
to dry.
We didn’t have the luxury (or money) for the ne=
w “disposable” diapers. But no one got mad or disgusted when ba=
by ‘filled’ the diaper. It’s what babies do do. Today mos=
t families are aided physically and mentally by disposable brands like Hugg=
ies, Pampers, or Comforts. The product names tell it all.
But at the othe=
r end of life we’re finding diapers, too. A little bigger and messier=
task with aging adults, and we don’t have that cute little bundle of=
joy to hold in our arms. Instead of Huggies or Pampers, adults get Depends=
=2E Someone noted that the ones who must care for the aging might be motiva=
ted by a name in the will and their service “depends” on it.
I am thankful for technology and devel=
opment of disposable diapers for both ends (pun intended) of the spectrum. =
What a joy and privilege to serve the helpless and those dependent on us no=
matter the age!
