[Some wonder what are some good reasons to enlist. On this Memorial Day
holiday, I share explanations from many in the armed forces]
You should enlist in the military if . . .
. . you’ve ever asked WWWDWOA? (what would we do without acronyms?)
. . you enjoy being a personal servant (that’s basically what you are) to
any one of the 300,000 people in the military who out-rank you.
. . you are an adult but need somebody to inspect you everyday to make sure
you put clothes on properly, and put shoes on the right feet.
. . you love cleaning the same places over and over and over until either
the paint comes off or your hands are bleeding.
. . you normally eat food that comes in boxes labeled “not for human
consumption”.
. . you don’t respect the person, but only respect what they wear on their
collar or sleeve.
. . you hate spending time with family.
. . you worry about being on time in Zulu time.
. . you want to pay taxes to pay your own paycheck.
. . you love magic shows and military working hours where the rules of logic
are suspended.
. . you are upset that your parents bothered to give you a first name.
. . who really wants to have any control over their life anyway?
“Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they’ve made a
difference. The Marines don’t have that problem.”
