04/25/11 Grif.Net – Zip Code

How special is your zip code? In 1963 the US Postal System launched its
“Zone Improvement Plan” – a five-digit code (called by acronym “ZIP”) to
help speed sorting and delivery of mail. Like prime pieces of real estate, a
user-friendly ZIP is based on location, location, location. The codes
represent a general geographic area of the nation-0 in the East, moving to 9
in the West. The next two numbers represent regional areas, and the final
two identify specific post offices.

Here are some of interest

01776 = Sudbury, MA, fitting because that small town supplied more men
(Minute Men) to fight the British at Lexington and Concord at the start of
the American revolution.

02468 = Waban, MA (easiest to remember ZIP code)

97531 = Kerby, OR

99950 = Ketchikan, AK (highest ZIP code)

07110 = Newark, NJ (luckiest ZIP code)

10101 = New York, NY (the binary ZIP code)

12121 = Melrose, NY (dance step ZIP code)

43210 = Columbus, OH (countdown ZIP code)

20500 = White House, Washington DC (only residence with its own ZIP code)

66666 = none (obvious reasons)

_____ = YOUR ZIP code, if it is unique, interesting or just “odd” to share
