I’ll admit I’m not used to preaching in a church=
with higher liturgy. Baptists do not have much congregational response in =
a service apart from an occasional “Amen”.
Substituting=
in our retirement, I found the audience filled with Lutheran, Anglican, an=
d Methodist seniors as I stepped to the podium. I smiled at them, tapped th=
e microphone to check if it was on, and heard no sound. Frustrated, I tappe=
d again. Still no sound.
I checked to adjust the microphone cord. Tap, tap=
, tap. Nothing. Looking up, I saw all eyes intently following my every moti=
on. Finally, in a loud voice I exclaimed, “Something is wrong w=
ith this microphone!”
Instantly, the whole congregation responded in=
unison, “And also with you!”
