09/30/24 Grif.Net – Onomatopoeic

In "The Book of Lists" (by Irving Wallace) there a=
re a few words considered the most beautiful SOUNDING in the English langua=
ge. Sadly, some have rather bad association or definition. Try out this lis=
t, expanded from a 1998 Grif Net blog, and see if YOU have a word that has =
a beautiful sound (no matter what it means).  Say these aloud to get t=
he full onomatopoeic effect:

voluptuous=

twilight=

babbling

murmuring

rendezvous

gossamer

scenario

affluence

gloaming

l=
ullaby

syphilis

whirlpool

cerebellum

meandering

rhapsody

daffodil

pneumonia

mellifluous

undulation

My favorite is diarrhea. A reader from 26 years ago noted we sh=
ould add CACOPHONY to the list. Other ideas welcome.
