The family gathered round her bed as the doctor left the room
She looked at all their faces, saw the sadness and the gloom
The news that they had just received had filled their hearts with fear
“Prepare for the worst.”, the words he said, were the hardest ones to hear.
Then all at once her voice rang out with such a joyful cry
She raised her hands towards Heaven as her time had come to die
The final words her loved ones heard as she entered into rest
“I’m not preparing for the worst, I’m preparing for the best!”
The best means she’ll be walking on streets of purest gold
She’ll live forever in her new home where no one will grow old
She’s looking at her Savior’s face and her heart is so blest
She’s not preparing for the worst, she’s preparing for the best.
So many of us here on earth have heard those awful words
With fires and floods, sickness and death, and tears our eyes have blurred
But once again we can be sure that after every test
We’re not preparing for the worst, we’re preparing for the best!
The best means we’ll be walking on streets of purest gold
We’ll live forever in that place where no one will grow old
And when we see our Savior our hearts will be so blessed,
We’ll understand that all along He prepared us for the best!
