MY THANKSGIVING PRAYER
Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank You,
Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.
Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as
possible, thank You, Lord, that I can see. There are many who are blind.
Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank You, Lord, that I
have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.
Even though the first hour of the day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast
is burned, and tempers are short, my children are loud, thank You, Lord, for
my family. There are many who are lonely.
Even though I read that it costs $250,000 to raise a child from birth
through college, thank You, Lord, for the miracle of life. There are many
who have never had the blessing of having children.
Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines
and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank You, Lord, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.
Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous and that some of my
students seem bent on refusing to learn, thank You, Lord, for the
opportunity to teach. There are many who do not have a job.
Even though I am miles away this Thanksgiving Day from some of the people
that I love the most, thank You, Lord, for memories of love and friends and
family and Thanksgivings long ago. There are many who have been robbed of
their memories by age or disease.
Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day, wishing my
circumstances were not so modest and my investment portfolio growing as fast
as my waistline, thank You. Lord, for my life.
And even though I have passed the half-century mark and face the challenges
of a new millennium, thank You, Lord, for being by my side now and for the
promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Amen.
