08/11/07 Weekend Grif.Net – Wisdom from God

“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is
understanding.” (Job 28:28)

[So how does one go about doing that? Fearing God and not doing wrong? St
Paul gives us the answer in the first letter he wrote to the young church in
Corinth, Greece]

“The word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us
who are being saved it is the power of God…. Has not God made foolish the
wisdom of the world?” (1 Corinthians 1:18, 20)

“We speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God
predestined before the ages to our glory.” (I Corinthians 2:7)

[The Greek word translated “mystery” doesn’t refer to something strange or
puzzling; it’s a technical term for the kind of truth man has not previously
known but is now revealed. The truth that God saves sinners through the
substitutionary sacrifice of His Son is now plain for all to see. But . . ]

“An unconverted person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for
they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are
spiritually appraised” (1 Corinthians 2:14)

“To us God revealed [His truths] through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches
all things, even the depths of God.” (I Corinthians 2:10)

“We also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by
the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words” (I
Corinthians 2:13)

“For we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16)

[And so our week of “wisdom” from teens, children, boomers, famous or not
ends on serious note. The wisest choice I ever made was when God opened my
eyes to the need of repenting of my sin and trusting Jesus Christ as my
Savior. Gave up “religion” and got real. THAT was “wisdom”.]
