12/09/17 Weekend Grif.Net – More About ‘Jesus Loves Me’

[Scholar/friend James sent this “addendum” =
to the story of Jesus Loves Me song we featured in last week’s =
blog]

“Did you know that Jesus Loves Me is reported to =
have saved the life of John F. Kennedy? In his historic crash of PT 109 =
during WW 2, the survivors, including then-Lieutenant John Kennedy, =
washed up on the shore of a small island. The indigenous people of the =
island liked the Allies, hated the Japanese, but could not distinguish =
one from the other (all foreigners looked alike).

While the =
natives were debating whether or not to kill the foreigners, one of the =
survivors started singing Jesus Loves Me, and several others joined in. =
When the natives heard the singing, they stopped, listened, and =
strangely enough, began singing with the men. You see, some missionaries =
had visited the island years before, but had been unsuccessful in =
teaching the islanders the Bible or how to speak English. One thing did =
stick with them, though: the song, Jesus Loves Me.

Because of =
the song, the islanders were convinced the survivors were Allies, and =
they decided to help Kennedy and his crew sneak past Japanese patrol =
boats to a nearby island that was held by the Allies. This simple song =
had the power to save the lives of Kennedy and his men.
