I grew up in a tough =
inner city neighborhood. How tough? Not mentioning names, but a kid I =
knew sat down to write a Christmas gift list to Jesus, rather than =
Santa, to be sure it would be answered.
He first wrote, =
‘Dear Jesus, I have been a good boy the whole year, so I want a =
new…’ He looked at it, then crumpled it up into a ball and threw =
it away.
On a new piece of paper =
he wrote again, ‘Dear Jesus, I have been a good boy for the past =
month, so I want a new…’ Again, he looked at it with disgust and =
threw it away.
Then the idea stuck =
him. He went into his mother’s room, took her statue of the Virgin =
Mary, put it in the closet, and locked the door. =
He took another piece =
of paper and wrote, ‘Dear Jesus, if you ever want to see your =
mother again…’
