11/04/08 Grif.Net – Election Day

Sobering thoughts for our Election Day reading from Alexis de Tocqueville (a
visitor to the United States during its first decades as a nation)

“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without
faith.”

“America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America
will cease to be great.”

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it
can bribe the public with the public’s money.”

“When the past no longer illuminates the future, the spirit walks in
darkness.”

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other
nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

“Life is to be entered upon with courage.”

TAKE TIME TO VOTE. HAVE COURAGE TO VOTE FOR WHAT IT RIGHT, EVEN IF IT’S NOT
POPULAR. AND REMEMBER YOU WILL FACE GOD TO GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF WHAT YOU HAVE
DONE IN THIS LIFE, INCLUDING YOUR ACTION TODAY.
