05/21/07 Grif.Net – The Star of the Euphrates

[MY APOLOGY for the messed up half-finished grif.net I was working on. As
many know, I have a disease affecting hands and feet . . and evidently I hit
something and instead of saving it to finish up in 10 days, it was sent
unfinished last night. Duh. Spam-R-Us. I’m NOT cussing, but where I spit
the grass dies.]

King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash. His country had been at
war with the Hittites for years. But he did have the Star of the Euphrates,
the most valuable diamond at the time.

He decided to take it to Croesus the pawnbroker. When he asked for a loan,
Croesus said, “I’ll give you 100,000 dinars.”

The king quickly objected, “But I paid a million dinars for it. Don’t you
know who I am? I am Ozymandias, King of Kings!”

Croesus was unimpressed and simply replied, “When you wish to pawn a star,
it makes no difference who you are.”
