10/24/15 Weekend Grif.Net – In Love

Going through some difficult days, a friend asked me if God REALLY loved
her.

So I said, “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring and dazzling-colored leaves in the fall.
He sends you a bright sunrise every morning, and streaks the sky with red
and gold as it sets at night.
Face it, friend – He is crazy about you!”

It reminded me that God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without
sorrow, sun without rain. He did promise strength for the day, comfort for
the tears, and light for the way. And I started singing Annie Johnson
Flint’s great song –

“God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain, rocky and steep,
Never a river, turbid and deep.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.”
