08/16/14 Weekend Grif.Net – Thoughts on a Marathon

[Searching thru old internet files and found a friend who shared his
thoughts after running a race (from 1997, I think.]

A while back Indianapolis hosted a marathon race. The midway point of the
marathon is a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (home of the
Indianapolis 500 race). Each year, drivers travel more than 225
miles-an-hour around that track. But a few weeks ago, as we jogged slowly
down the backstretch, I thought to myself, “Never have so many gone so
slowly for so long.”

Security at the track was tighter than anywhere else in the race. Many
places, a spectator could have just jumped in and started running. But as we
entered the Speedway, a dozen or more people were standing guard, all
looking for one thing: a number tag. Anyone without a number tag was stopped
and taken off the track. Your number was your ticket in, and if you didn’t
have it, you were going to be stuck outside.

In the race of life, anyone can run. Some are serious, some are sinful, some
aren’t completely sure why they’re here. As long as the race goes on,
everybody can run. But at the end of the race, we will all come to the best
place of all . . . and somebody will be checking I.D.’s. He won’t be looking
at your bank balance, or the length of your resume, or the color of your
skin. Only one piece of identification will get you in that door: the blood
of the Lamb. Only those who are covered in it will enter.

Two words of advice:
*Don’t trust your eternal fate to some “fake I.D.” that looks good here but
won’t do the job there. Only the real thing will do.
*Don’t forget whose blood you are wearing. Someone paid a high price to buy
your admission.
