Yesterday I needed gas so zipped to a local convenience store. As I pumped I
noticed a sign in the window advertising their “store brand” of soda pop on
sale: “XX Cola 49 cents. Two for a dollar.” What a deal! I thought.
So I went in to pay for my gas and chat with a nice gal (mentioning the sign
of course). She didn’t see any problem with it and told me many folks were
getting the better deal by buying two. Would I like some?
I just shook my head and signed the receipt for my credit card purchase. The
clerk then noticed that I had never signed my name on the back of the credit
card. She informed me that she could not complete the transaction unless the
card was signed.
When I asked why, she explained it was necessary to compare the signature on
the credit card with the signature I just signed on the receipt. So I also
signed the credit card in front of her.
She carefully compared that signature to the one I signed on the receipt. As
luck would have it, they matched.
